A Youth Challenges Her Drinking Classmates To Learn More Information About Alcohol Abuse And Alcohol Addiction

Heather drank on a regular basis with her drinking buddies. One Monday after school she began reflecting on the amount of alcohol she drank during a typical week and the careless and irresponsible drinking of her friends. As a result of this, she nicely asked all of her drinking buddies the following question: "what do we really know about alcohol abuse, alcohol poisoning, alcoholism, and binge drinking? In other words, how much alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse information do we honestly know? For our young age, we certainly drink excessively and I am beginning to wonder if all of us are headed for a life filled with alcohol-related problems down the road.

I believe we should go online and find out all that is possible about alcohol abuse, alcohol poisoning, alcoholism, and binge drinking. And then if we have any issues that we do not understand after we do our Internet research, we can take a hike to the student health center at the college and ask Nurse Urbanic to help us understand what we cannot comprehend.

It should not come as a huge surprise that what Heather said would result in a heated discussion. For instance, her best friend since the seventh grade, Alexis, said that they are too young and too healthy to be worried about hazardous and irresponsible drinking. Another drinking friend named Isaac thought that since most junior high and high school students drink there is no commonsensical reason why they should be any different. Another friend named Ally said that all she wants to do is to have fun drinking with her friends. And still another classmate named Lawrence in point of fact agreed with Heather mainly because his parents were both alcohol abusers and both of his parents had a history of alcohol related problems.

Heather explained to her buddies that she understood everything that they had said but that involving oneself in careless drinking at such a susceptible age in reality cannot be very healthy or something that contributes toward developing a meaningful life. When two or three of her friends asked what kind of alcohol problems Heather was referring to, Heather mentioned the following: alcohol-related problems like alcohol-related traffic accidents and fatalities, alcoholism, and alcohol poisoning (which can be fatal in some instances) and alcohol-related diseases such as cirrhosis of the liver, cancer, and heart disease.

When Heather then mentioned that careless drinking usually results in financial, school, legal, and relationship problems, some of her drinking buddies finally began to understand how extensive and how debilitating abusive and excessive drinking can be. Without a doubt some of her friends opened up and started to tell how these alcoholism and alcohol abuse effects had negatively affected some of their friends and their parents.

After under scoring some of the alcohol dependency and alcohol abuse problems that are related to careless drinking, the majority of her pals seemed to like the idea about getting information on the Internet. They were, however, hesitant to discuss their drinking behavior with the administrators at school. As Heather thought about this she told herself, "at least they are somewhat excited about leaning more about their hazardous drinking. This is an excellent start."
